Get Involved!
We need you! Don’t let ideology trump sound science.
Project Pharmacy is recruiting volunteer activists who want to help expand
and ensure access to emergency contraception within their communities.
What can you do?
Visit your local pharmacy
and
TELL US about your experience. Two basic questions to ask your
pharmacist about EC:
-
Do you stock and fill prescriptions for EC?
-
If NO:
- Why not?
-
Where else can I get EC locally?
-
Is there someone else available on staff to dispense EC?
-
Do you fill and stock other birth control prescriptions?
-
If YES:
-
Do you have it in stock now?
-
If no, why?
-
If yes, would you fill my prescription?
-
How does EC work?
The correct answer: It prevents ovulation and may prevent fertilization or
implantation.
Mystery Shopping
In the coming months Project Pharmacy volunteers are needed to randomly mystery
shop pharmacies
-
to see how readily available EC is in Iowa pharmacies,
- to survey/shop pharmacies that were unreachable during the surveying process
and
- to verify that “thumbs up” pharmacies really are ensuring immediate access to
EC.
E-mail Project Pharmacy with your interest and contact information (name,
e-mail, address, best phone number for contact – home and/or cell phone).
Write a Letter to the Editor
for your local paper.
E-mail Project Pharmacy for helpful ideas to get started.

Tell Your Friends
Make sure your friends have access to EC too! Tell them about the family
planning clinic you visited (such as a Planned Parenthood clinic or the Emma
Goldman clinic) or bring them with you. If you visited your local pharmacy
instead, tell your friend the outcome and what that means to you and all Iowa
women.
